With the arrival this week of our 2025 harvest collection, we now share with you the conclusive chapter to this year’s harvest we’ve been documenting and sharing more of an insight with you these past few months .

Harvest 2024 Recap Part 4: The results are in!!!

Measuring the acidity levels in olive oil is one of the primary indicator of how Olive Oil is graded. Achieving extra virgin olive oil grade requires an acidity level of below 0.8%.

Acidity levels for MANAYI 2025 collection: 0.23% 🌟 🌟 🌟

We were so positively shocked with the result which was our best ever score achieved that we had this tested multiple times to be sure. It’s small but positive strides forward in our development in how we expand on our knowledge and improve on our farming practices in our commitment to ensuring we can deliver the highest quality olive oil from our land.

2024 ends almost as quickly as it began. As we complete our harvest recap for this year, we continue to develop our understanding and knowledge and grow in every aspect of the business.

The challenges and the obstacles we face continue into 2025. Competition from large-scale producers, fluctuating market prices, sustainability concerns coupled with the climate change and rising production costs, and the need to expand our production output to fuel the increasing demand for such high quality extra virgin olive oil.

But we continue to faces these challenges head on, driven by an unyielding passion and determination that’s rooted in tradition and a deep connection to our trees that have been nourishing our family for decades since we purchased the property and land here 25 years ago.

2024 has proved to be another milestone year for us here at Manayi.

- Our co-director Demetra is now a certified olive oil sommelier with @esao_spain & @oliveoiltimes . This invaluable experience has enabled Demetra to widen her network among the leading olive oil enthusiasts and professionals which in turn has armed us with a greater knowledge of ways to continue to improve the work we do. Her own page @oliveoilthings is now live so we encourage you to please follow as she provides essential information and knowledge about all things olive oil related.
- The food farmer markets and their support with our extended friends @brookgreenmarket and @duckpondmarket . The incredible support from the people that have come to sample our products and those that continue to stayloyal to us.
- This year’s harvest yielded our best ever acidity levels achieved at 0.23%
- Achieving Gold ⭐️⭐️⭐️ at this year’s @nourishawards for our Extra VIrgin Olive Oil and also for our Chilli Olive Green Paste

- Pruning the 🌳 🌳 🌳

Once harvest was completed, our attention turned to the process of pruning the trees. This turned out to be a bigger job than expected as some of the trees were beginning to grow too high; making it challenging to reach the olives of which we were able to pick out enough to fill a half a dozen jars.

We brought in an agronomist who along with his team guided us through this essential bit of maintenance work. We’re excited to see how the trees will look in the months to come.

On this particular day, I was fasting from dairy and meat, so I kept it vegan. I often add sardines, scrambled eggs, or salmon for a protein boost, but today was all about plant-based goodness! 🌱✨

Harvest 2024 Recap Part 2 ☀️ 🫒 🌳

The work just doesn’t stop once we have harvested our olives. With the change of seasons that fast approach, there is an urgency to attend to various maintenance work required on the land.

The first step is re digging up the soil which means resetting and relaying our irrigation system as well to avoid damage to the pipes. We then check for any holes that may be causing water leeks so that minimal amount of water is wasted and lost; replacing any parts where necessary.

We have Mr Panayiotis who is a local resident in Alethriko and family friend who helped look after the grove whilst the Village House was being rented out during the Noughties period and when big John could only come intermittently throughout the years to check on the progress.

We’re very fortunate here at the Village House as the water is coming directly from two wells located on our land so we thankfully never go short.

Our most challenging harvest yet with decisions that needed to be made on the spot on how to navigate through the unexpected obstacles facing our way.

It’s a physical and emotional 🎢 Each year we continue to learn, each year we continue to improve. We will be sharing over the course of the next week the process undergone to provide you with what is our best quality extra virgin olive oil yet 🙂.
We also have been contemplating the idea of finally accepting volunteers as well for next year to be a part of this special time of the year for us. Something we’re still trying to figure out logistics with. In the meantime, we hope the recap posts to come can give you more of an insight into the work and graft involved from branch to bottle 🙂 🫒

This year’s harvest process was a little different than previous years. The collective decision was made to pick the olives earlier than we’ve done before. And this always is determined by a number of factors including potential rainfall as the season turns, olives ripening, trees visibly becoming heavy which consequently can mean olives potentially also falling.

October 14th was the date set. We begin with Day 1. We say Day 1 because this year we staggered the process over 3 days. So the end of Day 1 we’re already preparing the need for Day 2.
